Postponed!

My son looked down at his phone and sighed. His flight back to his base was postponed by another two hours. The flight had been postponed once already. He would end up getting in later than he expected.

When I asked if he was upset, he shrugged his shoulders and said that he’d be fine. He went on to add, “it is what it is” and that he’d have time now to catch up on the book that he packed in his carry-on bag.

My son, of course, found himself in the middle of the huge number of flight cancellations that happened over the weekend, caused by the Covid disruptions and wintry weather storming across the Rockies and Midwest. On Saturday alone, more than 4,731 flights were postponed, by far the largest day of cancellations since Christmas Eve. In total, airlines have canceled more than 14,000 flights in the last 10 days.

If I was in my son’s situation, I would’ve been cursing up a storm. I would’ve been frustrated and focused on how messed up my schedule would become. I would’ve been moping like a little baby. As I hugged my son and we went our separate ways, until the next visit, I couldn’t help but wonder, when did the student became the master.

  1. Yes I like this saying that we have no friends or enemies only teachers. We all have gifts and lessons to teach one another. I am a guest teacher by day and I always, if I allow myself to think about it get nervous and think really I am here to teach them? I much rather be the facilitator but I’m there so they cn teach me about patience and play.
