Talking in my sleep

The things you think about at 3 o’clock in the morning and can’t sleep. I was sick recently and thought I would fall asleep with no problems. In reality, I slept for an hour and was up the rest of the stinkin’ night, going back and forth with a make-shift conversation in my head.

Oh, the places it took me:

How’s the song go: Take me out to the ball game, take me out of the crowd, buy me some peanuts and Cracker Jack, I don’t care if never get back. Hmmm, do the Philadelphia Phillies have enough to win it all? They sure aren’t playing like it.

Heck with the Phillies. It got really cold the other night, it’s almost the start of the National Football League season. Speaking of football, where can I watch some good women’s rugby? Now they are some great athletes. Can anyone say Paris Olympics?

Enough sports, do I need to change the air filter? Yea, where did that come from? I can’t remember. I thought I just did that. Think. Think. Think. Pooh Bear and me trying to remember.

I’m so exhausted, why am I still awake?

If I don’t get up in the morning, who’s going to make the donuts. You remember the Dunkin Donut guy? Is he still around? He sure was consistent, day-in and day-out, but I’m not sure I can count on him anymore.

Boy, I bet Superman doesn’t have this problem. He probably lies down to go to sleep and is out like that. If he snores though, I bet he keeps up half the town. Speaking of which, who would win Superman or Batman. Superman’s got the brawn. The man of steel and all. And Batman has the cool gadgets. Take that Superman.

What about Spiderman? He would have a shot, right? That string of his would have to at least keep him in the fight.

No matter what, I bet Batman has a few fast cars at my disposal. I wish I lived next to him, then I could borrow his Ferrari on nights like tonight? I’d pull up to the Dairy Queen in the middle of the night and get a cone of chocolate and vanilla. Bet that would turn some heads?

I bet Batman never has to sing, “I can’t drive 55.” I wonder if Sammy Hagar still can’t drive 55 too. Oh, the life of a rock star. I bet they drive whatever freaking speed they want to drive. Ugh, what about me?

Oh crap, it’s already 4:30. It’s going to be a long, long day.

  1. I love the stringing and ping-ponging of your thoughts, that’s how it all happens in our brains and somehow we manage to live in the world .) sorry, but I had to laugh and hopefully, you have a better night tonight.

    1. A long weekend. Some things planned, but lots of free time — oh, I think I’ll sleep like a baby! And thanks for the feedback. I reread the post last night and had to laugh. I felt like there wasn’t much to the blog, just a lot of ping-ponging back and forth. Ha ha!

  2. Brian! We should’ve just hopped into a Zoom meeting. I slept for two hours last night and then did that ‘ping pong’ thing (great description from Beth) ALL NIGHT LONG. If we’re gonna be up in the middle of the night, the least we should do is attempt to solve some world problems, LOL. But given my own ‘ping pongs’ I accomplished zilch. Just too many random thoughts leading nowhere. 🤣

    1. Instead oh the places you’ll go … dr Seuss’ rhyme should read: Oh the world problems we’ll solve! Can you imagine!!! Ha ha, I’m in Vicki. We just have to figure out how to plan this. Knowing our luck, one of us would be on Zoom and the other would be fast asleep!!!😴 🤪🤪😎😎

  3. Oh man, how tough is that? All you want is to shut your mind down and give your body rest, and instead you have “Mind Games” as John Lennon sang! Or was it Foreigner you sang that you were playing “Head Games”…eiter way, so frustrating to be sure.

  5. Hope you’re feeling better, Brian!

Those late night conference sessions you have with yourself sure make for entertaining writing afterwards! Hope you also get caught up in your sleep soon!

  6. Oh, how I can relate to this, Brian. The ride your thoughts took you on was wild, but I hope your sleep has been better since then. It’s amazing how hard it is to turn off our brains when we’re supposed to be sleeping. I couldn’t help but smile, so thank you! And sleep well tonight! 🙂
