Oh, what a beautiful day!

When we still worked together, a coworker and friend of mine from London liked to call me every July 3 to wish me a “Happy Treason Day.” He liked to follow-up by calling me an “ungrateful colonial” and promised to stop sending my team Cadbury chocolate, English tea, and Guinness Beer.

Of course, I got my licks. I would first remind him that The Hershey Company in Pennsylvania now owns the rights to make and sell Cadbury in the U.S. I would leave out the fact that Hershey uses a different Cadbury recipe, but we didn’t need to fight over trivial facts. As a final blow, I would be quick to mention that Guinness is really Irish and not British.

Oh, it was all in fun. In the end, we would share a laugh or two and I would wish him a Happy Independence Day.

No matter where you are today, celebrate family, friends, the sacrifices of those before us, and have a wonderful day.

  1. Happy 4th of July, Brian. My wish for your big, beautiful country, with all that promise, is that the saner heads prevail and that those miracles Thomas Wolfe spoke of burst forth!

    1. Yes, we need saner heads. I’m not sure where they’re going to come from, but I don’t think either of the two major parties represents what most people think and feel. I get frustrated but I’m reminded that even in the craziest of times, strong amazing leaders have emerged to lead and solve our problems!!!!! Thanks Jane!!!!🎉🎉🎉🎉
