The world can be a crazy place. Sometimes it helps to step back and list a few of the things you’re grateful for. I’m making it a habit each week to list three blessings. Here’s what I’m grateful for this week, September 21-27.
What I’m grateful for:
—Learning new things. I took an online course the other day on AI. It felt good for the brain waves to be pulsating and thinking about something different than norm. It felt good to be working my brain again. Here’s to learning something new.

—Have a little heart. Every year World Heart Day on September 29 strives to increase awareness of cardiovascular disease, including how to prevent it. Cardiovascular diseases are the most common cause of death globally. Up to 80% of premature cardiovascular disease-related deaths are preventable through access to care, early screening, healthier choices in nutrition and exercising and staying active.

—Opening your eyes. When Robert Redford died earlier this month, I found myself thinking about some of his great movies. Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, The Sting, Three Days of Condor, The Natural were some of my favorites. A smaller movie, the 1992 film Sneakers, jumped out too. Redford starred with a great cast that included Sidney Poitier, David Strathairn, and Ben Kingsley among others. One of the things that I loved about the movie though was how it reminded me that we see with more than just our eyes. We see with our other senses too. Here’s to seeing the “cocktail parties” in our lives with our sense of touch, sound, taste and smell.
What gave me a smile?
I’ve been thinking some lately about forgiveness and peace. Life can be crazy. It can feel at times like one big roller coaster ride. One minute we’re up high in the air, the next we’re flying perilously out of control, upside down and over and out in a downward spiral. We’re all in search of our bit of peace and harmony.
May we all find the peace that Lt. Dan finds in the movie, Forrest Gump.

Yes, never stop learning and I love going back to see older films I missed or just want to enjoy again – and let’s not forget to thank those who use their fame to help others: Sinise is the founder of the Gary Sinise Foundation, a nonprofit organization that supports and honors veterans, first responders, and their families. The foundation provides numerous programs and resources, from building specially adapted homes for severely wounded heroes to offering financial assistance and hosting community-building events.

Yes, I need to find where I can watch it. I didn’t think it was that old . . . until I saw that River Phoenix and Sidney Pointier are in it. A great movie.

The world is changing so fast, if we want to stay involved, we need to keep learning. Thankfully there’s no shortage of online classes to learn new skills. (Look forward to your Big Three every week, thanks Brian.) 😊

Sneakers was a good movie!
I like learning and I think I do best when I’m in a class rather than trying to learn on my own.

I love learning new things and I do learn things every day. I just learned about ‘sneakers’ for instance so I’m getting a copy from my local library and will watch it on my dvd player this week. (yes, I still have one), thanks!

Bravo to learning, Brian! The hardest lessons are often the best, be they in Socratic Dialogue, trying new things, hard experience, or cross examination. You will keep going and keep growing, I am sure.

This read was a nice way to end the weekend. Love both of these clips. I have seen a few others online also mentioning Sneakers as the forgotten Redford film you have to see, so it looks like a sign! Looking forward to giving this a watch sometime soon.

Sneakers is different. I have to watch again to see if it still holds up … but I always thought it was really good!😎😎😎

It’s always nice to learn something new everyday, Brian. Glad you’re raising your knowledge about AI. It’s an area of work I’ve been doing this past year and always nice to hear people’s thoughts – good or concerned – about AI’s advancement.
Robert Redford’s passing is the end of an era. What a pioneering filmmaker and changemaker!

Yes, I’m really trying to keep an open mind about AI … yes, lot to learn, but it’s a great oppty too! All a state of mind, right? 🤣🤣😎😎😎

I haven’t heard of Sneakers, but I love all the other Redford movies you mentioned. Yes, I like learning something new, also. My photography class this week, was all about photographing artwork and scanning old photos. I had no idea those two things were so detailed.

I’ve never even heard of “Sneakers.” One of my favorite Redford films also happens to be one of his last, “All Is Lost.” The ending sparked a spirited debate between me and Tara. Still not sure who is right as it’s entirely up for interpretation.

Check out Sneakers sometime. It had an amazing cast: Redford, Sydney pointier, Dan ackroyd, Ben Kingsley, a young river Phoenix, and David straithairn. I have to rewatch it, but remember really liking it. My issue with All is lost is that I wasn’t expecting an untidy ending. If I had known that, I might have liked it. Ha ha

“I was with you all the way.” YOu might want to get out of the car and make a run for it while you can Jennie! My brain. It’s pretty crazy in there some times. Ha, ha. Thanks for stopping by and commenting. 🤣🤣🤣😎
