The world can be a crazy place. Sometimes it helps to step back and list a few of the things you’re grateful for. I’m making it a habit each week to list three blessings. Here’s what I’m grateful for this week, August 31 – September 6.
What I’m grateful for:
—Get up and move! I woke up the other day with a nagging pain in my neck. Of course, I wondered where that came from. I thought back on the previous day and nothing jumped out at me. I was getting annoyed and then I remembered something my mom used to say to me as kid. Instead of focusing on what doesn’t work, she used to encourage me to focus on what does. I temporarily put aside the pain and said a prayer of thanks. In my little list, I included my two good legs; my back that causes me the occasional bother, but generally is fine; two good hands; and a brain that gets me out of most of my problems. Of course, when I got up and got going, my pain in the neck was long gone. I don’t want to gloss over or make light of real health problems in the world. But at the same time a little bit of appreciation goes a long way.

—Bouncing back. “Our greatest glory is not in never failing, but in rising every time we fall” — Confucius. Here’s to life’s bounces . . . as in bouncing back up.

—Coffee with a fall twist. Extra, extra, did you catch the news. Dunkin’s Pumpkin Spice Signature Latte returned as part of its 2025 fall menu launch on August 20. Starbucks not to be outdone, started selling their versions of Pumpkin Spice Latte and Pecan Oatmilk Cortado six days later. I generally like to hold off the holidays until closer to the actual time, but then I saw something that shocked me the other day.
Gene Autry released the classic Christmas song Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer on September 1, 1949. A Christmas song before the trees even turned colors. I guess that makes it all okay. So, here’s to pumpkin spice lattes and celebrating early. Run Rudolph Run.

What gave me a smile?
—Big-time sports in America are in full swing. The NFL season kicked off this week. The Major League Baseball Playoffs will start later this month. Soccer fans in the US and across the globe have lots going on too. Hockey and NBA will kick off in another month.
But I was reminded me of the true meaning of sportsmanship and that some days you win and some days you lose some.

I love these Saturday blessings posts. My neck is killing me this morning. I’m gonna try your mama’s trick. I’ll let you know how that goes.

I really hope it works for you. Yes, please let me know. When we were little, my mom didn’t like us complaining. Ha ha.

Checking in. I painted my garage door today and my neck feels much better. I also took a couple aspirins.

Ohhh… so you’re one of those, eh? Pumpkin spice lover and not afraid to say it! I tease, of course. I like the spice in my cheesecake in real fall 😉

I’m really not Dale! Ha ha. I keep my coffee pretty simple: cream no sugar. But seeing the Rudolph release date seemed really early to me especially back in the 40s. Ha ha! But yes, hard for me to believe that fall is here!!!

The dad is a great dad! Big three means the big three car companies to me. Growing up in Michigan does that. 😂

Everyone needs a dad or mom like that! He did an awesome job of making her feel better. Gene Autry’s Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer was released the year I was born so I lived with it my entire life. I played it for my kids every Christmas too. Great memories attached to that song. xo

You’re so right. That kind of support. Wow, just amazing. Ha ha, I guess you’re ready for a little Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer then. Ha, ha. Christmas is coming soon enough. Ha, ha.

Yea, a lot of extra sugar in those lattes. I’m not a pumpkin spiced latte purveyor but I know a lot of people who are. I’m just big on fall. Glad it’s almost here. And yes, I love the father in the video. Glad that it shows a father who gets it. I’ve seen a lot of videos lately of parents who don’t … good to see one who does!

Did you see that Britain Covey returned to the Eagles?

I did! He’s definitely become a fan favorite!!! 😎😎😎 It looked like he was going to make the Rams roster, but when they cut him the Eagles jumped at the chance to bring him back. Sounds like he tried to play through injuries last year. Check out this story. Happy for him & Utah football. A wonderful post, Brian. I always enjoy your gratitude thoughts. I’m glad your neck is okay. A few months ago, I found out that I have neck arthritis. But the pain subsided with P.T. And I’m more mindful of the position of my neck. 🙂 It’s fascinating how our bodies change as we get older. Anyway…I may get a pumpkin spice latte in your honor today. By the way, I emailed you from baydreamer25, so will you have time to check it today? Happy Monday and have a good week! 🍁

Well, isn’t that heartwarming! I aspire to be That Dad. (Or would have, if either of my kids had even remotely been into the idea of playing sports.)
I know Pumpkin Spice Lattes get a lot of hate these days, but I’m always down for at least every season.
