A peaceful easy feeling

For some people, fun looks like busy city night life. It means a night out at a fancy restaurant and later going out to a club. For someone else it can be a beachfront property or a lakeside mountain retreat.

It could be a cruise or an afternoon trip to the museum. It could be a night out at the big game. Or a three week trip around the world.

For me, a fun afternoon is my laptop and book. If you really wanted you could add a cold beer or a frosty frothy drink. But more than anything, it’s time. Time to chill. Time to relax. Time to just be.

What does relaxation look like for you?

A few more thoughts:

“Tension is who you think you should be. Relaxation is who you are.” –Chinese Proverb

“Sometimes the most important thing in a whole day is the rest we take between two deep breaths.” –Etty Hillesum

“Your mind will answer most questions if you learn to relax and wait for the answer.” –William Burroughs

“There is more to life than increasing its speed.” –Gandhi

  1. Fun or relaxing? 😉

Relaxing for me includes the shade from the gazebo, book, writing material, camera all there on the table for me to switch around what I do between dips in the pool 🙂

  2. I so agree, when people kept asking me for my retirement plans, I said I really didn’t have any and many worried about me. I said what I really wanted was just to have two things: time and freedom to do what I choose to do or not do. and I’ve found that and am so happy for it.

    1. Good question Mary. I’m in an old school mood right now. I have Agatha Christie “And then there were none” and “The Hobbit” on my desk. Re-reading them from years ago. Loved The Hobbit as kid. Seeing if it still holds up as an adult. I finished Frederik backman’s “Anxious People” last week. Very good. I do too much scrolling so I’m trying to read more books! How about you????📚📚🎉🎉😎

      1. Oh, interesting. I should put Anxious People on my list. I really liked Man Called Ove. I read James by Percival Everett 👍🏼 and just now starting The Director by Daniel Kehlmann.

  3. The older I get the more I realize the need for rest. I certainly can’t do what I was capable of doing ten years ago, but at that time I was running my own business and still active in the community. I’ve scaled back a lot in the last years, but the thing that motivates me and gives me peace at the same time, is getting into my garden. I have a large perennial garden that’s finally showing off. Up until this year it has been untended so now, I have time and still have a little energy to keep it alive and well. I’m sure another year or two will be all I can give to it, but until then, it’s my happy place.

  4. I wouldn’t know: relaxation has been in short supply lately. But the older I’ve gotten, the more I’ve come to appreciate those quiet days at home, on the deck or in the backyard.

  5. Oh, that William Burroughs quote is so right on. I find so many answers when I relax and let them come.

I’m with you that relaxing is a good book. Hope you are having a great week, Brian!

  6. Simplicity is the key to relaxation and you have the winning formula, Brian! I could use an afternoon nap now but have to return to work in a few moments! 😆
