Some people jot down notes on large legal pads. Some use sticky notes. Lately I’ve been pulling out my phone and taking pictures of interesting quotes and memes that I want to return to later. They range from reminders about how much I love the beach to married life to fighting aging.
My list tends to be a hodgepodge, but I think that’s what I love about them, that they have no rhyme or reason to the setting sun and they might even contradict each other. They inspire me nonetheless and I think readers might like them too. Here goes:
—Life takes you down many paths, but the best ones lead to the beach.
—You’re totally replaceable at work. You’re not replaceable at home. Home is your real life. Keep that perspective and protect it.
—In just one hour, the US Postal Service processes an average of 20.2 million pieces of mail. In a year, that adds up to more than 146 billion mail items. The USPS estimates that the percentage of mail lost each year is less than 0.5%, meaning for every 10,000 pieces, less than 50 of them will be lost.
—”Im not 25, so why should I be trying to look 25? Aging is what happens if we’re lucky; it mean’s that I’m alive.” —Cindy Crawford.

—When you have something important to say to your kids, say it very quietly so that they have to listen. They’re immune to you yelling, but whispering gets and keeps their attention.
—”We’ve gotten so good at blaming everything but ourselves. The second you blame yourself (in a respectful, productive way), you can start controlling the outcome you want.” —Entrepreneur Gary Vaynerchuk
—A small portion of the U.S. Seal ethos: “I will never quit. I persevere and thrive on adversity. My Nation expects me to be physically harder and mentally stronger than my enemies. If knocked down, I will get back up, every time. I will draw on every remaining ounce of strength to protect my teammates and to accomplish our mission.”
—”Be decisive. The road of life is paved with flat squirrels who couldn’t make a decision.” —Unknown.
—Try something new today, tomorrow, and the next day. Always be learning.

—Life is too short to worry about stupid things. Have fun. Regret nothing, and don’t let people bring you down.
—“I never met a bitter person who was thankful. Or a thankful person who was bitter.”—Nick Vujicic.
—”We are at our most powerful moment when we no longer need to be powerful.” —Eric Michael Levanthal
—You may have never heard of Dr. Vivien Thomas, but he was an African American laboratory supervisor who developed a procedure used to treat blue baby syndrome (cyanotic heart disease) in the 1940s. Thomas was unique in that he did not have any professional education or experience in a research laboratory; however, he served as supervisor of the surgical laboratories at Johns Hopkins University for 35 years. In 1976, Hopkins awarded him an honorary doctorate and named him a surgical instructor. Without any education past high school, Thomas rose above poverty and racism to become a cardiac surgery pioneer and a teacher of operative techniques to many of the country’s most prominent surgeons. Countless people owe their life to him.
—“What if Christmas, he thought, doesn’t come from a store. What if Christmas … perhaps, means a little bit more!” ―Dr. Seuss, How the Grinch Stole Christmas!
—Be kind. Always be kind.

I also jot down thoughts and quotes on my phone, and then forget that I wrote them – which I guess is why…?
These are great quotes. I resonate with the one about being irreplaceable at home. It also gives me the most pause.

I see that one every so often. It’s such a hard balancing act. I want to do a good job. I want some of the things that a good job offers. But I also want to spend time with my family and not focus so much on work. Yea, the balance bar goes up and down! Ha ha

The photo came from Pexels. Yes, reminds me of my childhood too. Loved great crayons.

I enjoyed reading each and everyone of these. I, too, I’ve been writing down words and sentences that I call my “light bulb moments” for 2023 and plan to share them on my blog at the end of the year. Fortunately none of ours are the same so there is no fear of my being a copycat. Thanks for sharing these!

Excellent grouping of quotes. I, too, copy them all over the place. In my phone, on my computer 🙂

I can’t keep track of them all. I’ll take a picture and then forget about it, realizing later that I had saved it. Yup, kind of crazy.

OMG Brian, these are inspiring and some of them are so darn funny, like the “flattened squirrel.” You would think by now the word would have gotten out for them to look both ways before crossing a busy street! 😝 Honey, you are not alone about the collection of quotes spilling from the seams of every nook and cranny! 😍🥂😜 I’m a part of that club too! 😱

I had to include the flattened squirrel. Sums up my sense of humor too. One minute talking about the power of family and needing to make smart choices of work over family and then hey there’s funny quote about squashed squirrels and decision making. Ha, ha.

Sometimes Brian, I feel like one of those pieces of roadkill. 😝 Choices…it’s rough being a grown-up! 😱

This post has such a great collection of quotes and facts. I loved it! My personal favorites are-
“Life takes you down many paths, but the best ones lead to the beach.”
”Be decisive. The road of life is paved with flat squirrels who couldn’t make a decision.” —Unknown.
“We are at our most powerful moment when we no longer need to be powerful.” —Eric Michael Levanthal
I am someone who tends to collect quotes or random factoids completely on one subject itself, while this post just shows how mix and match with a good flow really resonates with most. I shall too start doing the same soon. 😊

Thanks Keerthi, I love any quote that gets me thinking or laughing, even ones about flat squirrels. Ha, ha.

Oh definitely – the one with the squirrels gives one the right amount of humour along with confidence to forge one’s own destiny

I agree with the beach quote. I’ve loved the beach my entire life. Also, I read yesterday that Amazon delivers more mail than USPS. I wonder if that’s packages or all mail?

Yea, but EA, your beach is nicer than my beach. Ha, ha. We typically head to New Jersey (Sea Isle, Cape May), Delaware (Bethany), Maryland or even Virginia Beach. All very nice beaches, but they don’t really compare from what I’ve seen with San Diego or even Mexico beaches. 🙂 🙂 🙂

I grew up in Washington State and our beaches there were cold and gray. Maybe similar to yours on the East Coast? We’d also venture into British Columbia.

The Atlantic beaches are nice, certainly what I’m used to, but no crystal clear water. Tends to be colder too until later in the summer

My husband’s family had two houses in Laguna Beach and we spent our honeymoon there. My husband thought that was so boring, but compared to Washington State, I was in heaven.

That’s so funny. I can relate. My wife likes the beach, but we never went much as a kid, where she went a lot. I’m the one who is always eyes wide open!

That’s it exactly. To my husband, Laguna was an hour from where he grew up. It was a whole new world to me.

This is terrific, Brian. Cindy Crawford ‘gets it’. I whisper to the children in my classroom when it’s important, yes they listen and you can hear a pin drop. I wonder if Dr. Vivian Thomas was the hero to Ben Carson. I hope you look up his story! Forget politics, I’m talking about his life story. He was a pediatric neurologist at Johns Hopkins, but his childhood story is one I will never forget. His mother turned off the TV when he and his brother were kids. She made them read books and write a book report to her. She always wrote an A on the book report. It was many years later that Ben Carson learned his mother could not read, yet she knew it was important and did the right thing.

Yes, interesting to see children’s reaction to whispers. I always found it interesting with my own kids. Ha, ha.

So good. Love the be kind quote! And the one that we aren’t replaceable at home. Right! Thanks for the reminders from your desk to mine!

Not replaceable at home. It’s still hard to carry out though when work always seems to need us. A big challenge. Ha ha, I’ve had my good and bad moments managing it!!

All are really good. You know I love quotes! The road Leading to the beach is the song of my heart!
I remember when my kids were little, so true about whispering. 🙂
AMEN about not being replacable at home and WHY do we spend so much time and effort about looking young again! We earned the wrinkles and gray hair! Thanks for the reminder. Have a great day!
