A well-thought-out plan

There’s an often told expression that says, “If you want to make God laugh, tell him your plans.”

Of course, we ended up getting some snow Saturday night into Sunday morning. It was only a few inches — nothing like what the Midwest got last week or even other parts of Pennsylvania — but it was enough to force a change of plans. Our plans went from running to and fro to simpler ones.

The goal of the day became to shovel out. Then, it shifted to staying warm and getting lost looking out the window at a real life snow globe. Shake it up and watch the snow crystals fall to the ground.

Okay God, we got your message loud and clear. Relax, stay in the moment, and be grateful. Gotcha!

What do you do when Nature says “not so fast” and gets in the way of your best-laid plans? Do you fight it or go with the flow?

The best laid schemes of Mice and Men
oft go awry,
And leave us nothing but grief and pain,
For promised joy!

Robert Burns, To a Mouse (Poem, November, 1785)

  1. When weather gets in the way of my plans, I enjoy the excuse to stay inside and read. We had a change of plans yesterday traveling home from Palm Springs due to mechanical issues. Our plane was delayed and we found out they took it out of commission and had to find a new plane for us (Thank goodness.) We had a three-hour delay at the airport. We sat in the sun, I read Faulkner and F.Scott Fitzgerald and we had a nice lunch.

  2. Brian, we got 7.5″ out our way in Western Chester County, and it did skew plans for Sunday morning. While we got out with the snow blower and dug out ourselves and our neighbor, nobody came around to plow the streets until midday because they had their hands full with the “country roads” I guess. To be sure, we just had to pivot and enjoy the scenery for a while longer!

  3. Like Hannibal from the A-Team, ‘I love it when a plan comes together’. So I tend to get a little disappointed when the weather or anything else messes up my plans. But things eventually work out in the end. 😊
