The world can be a crazy place. Sometimes it helps to step back and list a few of the things you’re grateful for. I’m making it a habit each week to list three blessings. Here’s what I’m grateful for this week, July 27 – August 2.
What I’m grateful for:
—Crazy friends who enrich our lives. This goes for even friends of a feather.

—Water in all its many different forms.

—Let the fun get started. A cold drink on a hot day.

What gave me a smile?
Now here’s something to celebrate. On August 1, 1981, MTV came into existence.
The first video to air on MTV was the Buggles’ “Video Killed the Radio Star.” A brief message from MTV VJs Allan Hunter, Martha Quinn, JJ Jackson, Nina Blackwood, Mark Goodman followed. They talked about music and television coming together. And then they played “You Better Run” by Pat Benatar.
The first ten videos:
- “Video Killed the Radio Star” by The Buggles.
- “You Better Run” by Pat Benatar.
- “She Won’t Dance With Me” by Rod Stewart.
- “You Better You Bet” by The Who..
- “Little Suzi’s on the Up” by Ph.D.
- “We Don’t Talk Anymore” by Cliff Richard.
- “Brass in Pocket” by The Pretenders.
- “Time Heals” by Todd Rundgren.
- “Take It on the Run” by REO Speedwagon.
- “Rockin’ the Paradise” by Styx.
Yes, I miss the old MTV.

Crazy to think how long MTV has been around, Brian, and how it’s evolved over the years!

I definitely preferred the early years when they played videos. I can’t say I’ve watched much since. I know that I’m not their target audience but it’s still sad to see! 😎😎😎

If MTV had been around when I was in school, I would have never done my homework. Great post, Brian! We all need crazy friends.

I could waste time with it … but so many early videos on mtv were simple that it allowed you to do a math problem or two and come back just like that. Ha ha

I knew which video MTV played first but had no idea about what followed. As a big Pat Benatar fan, I’m thrilled with #2. A deep cut, at that!

Those were the days. A bunch of bands you didn’t know mixed in with Pat Benatar, mixed in with Duran-Duran, mixed in with Rod Stewart and Blondie. Wow.
