Sometimes I wish I was a kid again. Oh, I’m not saying kids have it easier today, because I don’t think they do. They have it rough. They face poverty and hunger. According to UNICEF, around 333 million children live in extreme poverty. They face societal pressures and bullying and depression too. It’s a tough time to be a kid.
But, I do love their toys.
They even have cool grocery store carts. On our last trip to get groceries, I really wanted to grab the one that looked like a real life police car. My wife, of course, told me “no.” She told me that I’m an adult more or less and should start acting like one. But the cart was tempting.

Carts have come a long way. I don’t remember anything like that when I was a tyke. If the store had them, my mom avoided them like the plague. The ones I sat in were extremely uncomfortable and hurt your bottom. Even the ones when my kids were young lacked much creativity. There was a steering wheel but it never looked like much fun.
If I could’ve sat in this one, I might have liked going with my mom to the grocery store. I might have even volunteered and offered to help her out. “Hey mom, I think you forgot the milk and bread.”
Instead, I would whine and complain and wonder out loud when we were going to be done. “Oh, what’s taking so long. Why are you getting that cereal? I don’t care if Mikey likes it. I want Fruit Loops or the one with the rabbit on it.”
A cool cart where I could drive! I would’ve been in heaven. Next trip to the grocery store, I’m grabbing the police car cart. I don’t care how much my wife pooh-poohs me.
Bring on the fun. Who’s with me?

Kids get to have all the fun and I think there’s a lucrative market to be had with adult-sized carts!

Oh my goodness. I can almost see the look on her face when she said ‘no!’ Maybe you need to sneak back and take a trip around the store – just as Liz said below. Be sure to add your siren sound effects! 😁

Oh I got the dreaded wife look because I made the siren noise. Shook her head at me!!!🤣🤣🤣

You are right. I don’t remember fun carts like that growing up. But there was a pony outside the store that I could ride for a nickel or dime? Did you have those?

OMG, I can’t believe I forgot about them. Loved those rides. My brothers were older and always hated waiting on me! Ha ha! They were the best.

I’m the youngest, too. I loved those rides too. I’m sure my brother would hate waiting on me.

They whined that they had to wait on me. “Grow up! That’s a kiddie ride!” Ha ha. Meanwhile I’m sure they loved it too when they were my age. 🤭🤣🤣🤭😄

I’m sure they did and your mom got tired of waiting.

Can’t wait to read your future post on zooming up and down the grocery aisle in youthful style!

You’ll read about it . . . but unfortunately it will be a news story that goes viral. “Late 50s old man goes to jail for getting into a fight with a five year old kid over a grocery store cart.” I can just picture the video. Me all red faced shouting to the camera, “but the cart was mine.” Ha, ha. Not my best look!!!

My kids love those carts! Well, they are a little big for them now but back in the day we’d try to go early so they could sit in one. But when they both have a steering wheel and turn opposite directions – which way do you push? Ah, a great problem to have!

Too funny Wynne. Oh, the struggles of parenting. Then ya gotta fib to one of the kids and tell them the car slipped on the ice. It helps if you add in some “errrrr” sound effects like the car is sliding. Ha, ha.

So interesting… When I remember those years I always think of the places we lived in. There were so many of them, when I dream about my childhood years it’s always in a new home, we moved a lot and it made me think this is how it’s supposed to be. I remember some of my childhood toys and books. I wish I could find those books, they were the best. We didn’t used to have shopping carts, this was a new thing for me as an adult.

Yes, let’s do it. That is a pretty cool cart. I just read about people paying $10K for a doll that looks “real,” and the first thing I thought was how many kids we could feed with that amount. I’m not against buying toys or other things, but sometimes we need to look beyond ourselves and use our money wisely.

Oh yes, Edward! A 10k doll. Um, what happens when the box that the doll comes in is more fun than the doll. And even if it’s the best thing since sliced bread, isn’t there something called “perspective.” Crazy parenting. Ha, ha.

😆 You’re right about the box, sometimes the box is more fun than the actual toy. The sad part is that adults are buying them not for the kids, but for themselves. I guess perspective has gone out the window.

My grandkids loved those carts! Awesome ploy for the stores – get those kids in with their parents! I hope you go back and get the police cart and maybe get a cute police hat to wear! And if so, send photos!

A police hat. The police cart. Oh, I will definitely be writing about my next adventure. I don’t care what my wife says. Ha, ha.
