I’m starting to believe in ghosts. In fact, I think I have proof that we have one in our house. Oh, it’s friendly enough, but still a ghost.
Our long time family pet, Nittany, died in February. In the last week alone, my wife has twice found wisps of wavy white hair. Nittany was a Lhasa-Apsa – Bichon Frise and had white and black fur. Throughout her life, we kept her trimmed and she rarely shed like most dogs. Despite that, my wife found a long wisp on our stairs and later in our kitchen. We’re pretty meticulous about cleaning, so it’s kind of shocking that we would find Nittany hair now.
The hair could be from anywhere. Maybe the hair was stubborn leftovers. But it gets better.

Doing doggie business
The other morning, I woke up kind of early. I heard our neighbor’s car start up and pull away. He normally leaves for work around 4:30 a.m. so I knew I still had an hour or so to sleep in. Next I heard the pitter patter of tiny paws and scratching at the door. “Nittany, go back to bed,” I said. The reality of the words hit me as soon as they were out of my mouth.
I popped out of bed and I ran downstairs. I saw nothing. I wasn’t sure what I was expecting, but I turned and went back to bed. Sure enough, I heard the pitter patter again. When I got up later, the only thing I could find was a grocery bag that had made its way from our kitchen to the living room.
Doggie dinner
Finally, one last ghost story. When Nittany died, I put her water and food bowls in our garage. I didn’t want to see them everyday and have a constant reminder of what we were missing. When I take the garbage out now, I’ll routinely look down at them. “Miss you girl” I’ll say to myself.
I went into the garage this week and looked down, the bowls were missing. I didn’t throw them out. Where did they go? I turned on the light and looked closer. They weren’t where I had left them. A quick search showed that they had been moved closer to a sunny spot near the door. Nittany liked to be near the sun. She used to like to look out the window and catch a few rays of sun. It was her favorite spot.

When I walked in the house, I asked my wife if she had moved the bowls. She shook her head. She didn’t even know what I had done with them. I asked my son. I thought maybe since he’s been home, he might have moved them. Nope, he hasn’t even gone to the garage. No one else has been in the house.
Insert scary horror music here.
I’m like Ray Parker Jr. singing the song Ghostbusters, “I ain’t ‘fraid of no ghost.” Come out, come out wherever you are. Of course, if it’s not her, I could be in real trouble.
I’ve got a Ghost Doggie on the loose!

This would be such a welcomed ghost in our home. 🙏 I hope you and your wife find great comfort in these ghostly encounters. 😊 Nittany is clearly holding you both near and dear to her heart from above. 💕

I’m not sure about my wife. She thinks I’m crazy. “Oh, don’t write that we’re finding dog hair. Your readers will think we don’t clean.” Ha, ha. Meanwhile, I’m definitely convinced that we’ve got a Casper-like friendly ghost in our midst. Just as long as Ghost Nittany doesn’t start pooping in the house. I’m good with it. 😎🤣🤣🤣🤣

Oh, Brian….that pitter patter. There are times when I wake up in the night – worried that I’m gonna roll over on our sweet little Sadie (who’s been gone for over two years now). Whenever that happens, I just conclude she’s giving me a nudge from…somewhere. Nittany’s in your heart forever! 💕

My back has been a little sore lately too . . . right where Nit used to push me in the back when I was sleeping. More proof of a ghost in the house. Ha, ha. Yes, I’m sure Nittany is giving me a nudge from the beyond. Crazy dog. ha, ha. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

I’ve heard stories like this before after someone has lost a pet. I’m sure she is nearby keeping an eye on things. ❤️❤️

If the ghost starts biting my shoes or poops in the house . . . maybe I’ll have different thoughts. For now, I consider it a friendly ghost. Ha. ha.

This is the sweetest ghost story.
P.s
Our pointer died around 3 months ago and I still find his hair around the house and on the clothes.

My daughter thinks I’m losing my mind. But if ever there was a dog that would come back to being Casper the friendly ghost, it would be Nittany. Ha, ha. Sorry to hear about your pointer. It’s always such a hard thing to see happen!!!!

It is, but they live forever in our hearts… and… if we are lucky enough in our walls😉
And do t mind the daughter , mine constantly think I lost the plot, when they don’t accuse me to be bipolar😝

Wow. The bowls is scary. The pitter patter of feet, I think you could hear in a sleepy state. For months I’d feel the weight of Olive jumping on our bed and falling asleep on my legs. She do that around 3 to 4 a.m. every night. I continued to feel that or dream it after she passed.

Yea, I can write off the hair, but I have no idea how the bowls got moved. My only hunch is ghost doggie! Ha ha

I believe in all possibilities in the universe. I call these whispers. where those who have passed, who we have loved and who have loved find little ways and signs to let us know that we are not forgotten and they remain in our lives and hearts as well as in theirs. not scary, just love. interesting that my post tomorrow is about a beloved family pet who passed yesterday

Make sure you leave the dog door open – you don’t want it to ghost pee in your house!
I love that Nittany is keeping you an eye on you. Our beloved pets are so close to our hearts!

That’s what I’m thinking too Wynne. Gotta keep the door open. Otherwise, we’ll start to wake up to little messes! I really will think we have a ghost if I start to wake up that. Ha, ha.

It’s nice to have a little magic in your life, and visits from beings you loved. I say keep looking – Nittany is probably trying to tell you something!

Yes, you’re so right, we all need a little magic. Yes, I don’t know if we really have a ghost doggie or not, but it’s been fun to think about. I like to think she’s thinking of us. 🎉😎🎉😎🎉😎

😁 One haunted house experience happened as a child. Let’s just say I absolutely believe in ghosts. One haunted hotel, in Southern AZ, was super scary!

This is awesome. I have had (and blogged about) some wild paranormal experiences, so in my mind, I am 100% convinced ghosts are real. Mine have all been people…I wish my beloved cat, Sydney, would drop by for a visit!

Who knows Mark . . . maybe next week you’ll have a special sighting. Ha. ha. I’m not sure what I think about ghosts, but the bowl being moved definitely got my attention. Ha, ha.

I would love to have that kind of sighting!
I once went on a real-life paranormal investigation with a ghost hunting team in Vancouver, WA. One of the wildest nights of my life.

You are not alone, Brian. We’ve had similar experiences after losing our kitty cat. We had Angelica Crobopple for 16 years. She was our fierce protector. She’s been gone a few years now, but we still ‘catch a glimpse’ of her in all the places she used to love. We still ‘hear’ her around the house. We still miss her.

Ahhh, that’s special Rose. We miss Nittany. It’s fun to think about her.

Awww Brian, this gripped my heart. 🤗 Perhaps Nittany’s spirit will always be with you, especially when she knows you still miss her. That is rather surreal, but heartwarming at the same time. Embrace the spirit while she’s still here. It sounds crazy but it’s not. Of course though, if you suddenly hear Ghostbusters playing in the background, run for your life!!! 👻🐶👻

No ghostbusters yet, but I’m keeping my ears open. Ha. ha. The bowl moving was the one that really made me think. My wife was freaked out by the hair. Yes, enjoying it while it lasts.

I love these stories, Brian, but they’re not scary because I think Nittany is with you in spirit. As I wrap up my Copper book, there are poems about hearing a groan or a whine that he used to do because of his arthritis and old body. But I haven’t heard nails clicking on the floor and that tugs at the heart. Anyway, take comfort in knowing she’s looking after you all. I love the photos, by the way. 🥰

Brian, you are one of the lucky ones. Most people don’t see evidence of their pets when they’re gone. You did, so count your lucky stars.
