It started raining. It was light at first. A drop here, another there.

Cats and dogs and everything in between!
Within a few minutes, it started coming down faster. A steady beat like a drummer tapping on a set of drums. It grew faster and faster. The noise growing with intensity and drive. The water washed down the window, replaced instantly by another bucket and another and another.

Around and around we go, where it stops, nobody knows!
And then the heavens opened up and I was reminded why you don’t mess around with bad weather. You give it a wide berth. The damn had been broken and I got a strange feeling that anything and all could happen.
My windshield wipers raced back and forth and barely seemed to register a difference. I half expected a tornado cluster to rise up out of nowhere and whip my car and everything around me up into a funnel cloud. “Hey ma, look over there, I see a flying cow!”
For a second, I thought I have to live out my very own version of the movie Twister. How did Helen Hunt and Bill Paxton make this look so easy?

Over before it began
And then just like that, it was over. Gone. The rain had stopped. The tension seemed eased. The storm raced back to wherever it came from. Within minutes, the threat was far from memory again. The birds started chirping again. Other drivers started coming out of hibernation.
Here’s to waiting it out.
And oh yea, here’s to sunny skies all this week.

Love that song so much!
Don’t get me started about the rain. Pretty much all of our spring was all rain… I think it’s mostly over now, but I don’t want to jinx it.
The 48-hour building-in-a-weekend bunkie has taken 3 weeks plus counting. ☔

Oh, can’t wait to see the completed bunkie! Only three weeks? I would somehow turn it into a yearlong project. 🤣🤣🤣 Hopefully better weather coming your way Claudette!!! And yes, love that song too. So many great memories hearing it with friends.

Beautifully written, Brian. That’s the thing with these heavy downpours – it’s like nature’s own outburst! Power-packed one moment and gone all too quickly!

I was glad I was off the side of the road. I really did think a tornado was going open up and start ripping around cars and buildings. It wasn’t long but long enough for my tastes. Ha ha.

This is lovely! Driving in the rain is stressful. I usually only like the rain when i can stay home and be cozy

I was only okay because I was pulled over. Kind of crazy. But it ended as quickly as it happened. Don’t mess with the weather. Ha, ha.

Great song! We had a huge storm Sunday night with thunder, lightening that lit up the house and rain. It rained most of Monday, too. I read that we broke a century old record for rain.

I never think that it rains in Arizona!! Ha ha. My east coast bias showing through … ha ha.

We have a monsoon season, but I haven’t figured out when it is. One year we drove to Flagstaff for our anniversary in July. We hit a hail storm near Sedona. Our entire car was dented by golf ball sized hail. There was zero visibility and the highway had a cliff on one side. Worst driving experience of my life! My husband drove a few feet behind a semi truck and all we could see were the taillights.

Storms like that are the worst. Rain or snow!!! Ugh. I’m okay in snow but when it’s crazy like that, it’s hard getting anywhere. Hate the white knuckle experience!!!! 😎😎😎

I recorded the sound of hail our car. Just playing it today gives me the heebee jeebies.

those ‘outbursts’ are always so dramatic, here and then suddenly gone, and they always make me think for a moment, ‘did that just really happen? and then I go on about my day –

Exactly Beth. I had to shake my head. Did I see what I saw? My very active imagination throws me off too. Ha ha

Cheers to waiting out! Just chilling and singing with the birds. Side note I can’t stand Helen Hunt 😭🤣

Oh, now I need to know. Why not a Helen hunt fan? I wasn’t a big fan in twister or the movie with Jack Nicklaus… but I used to think she was okay in mad about you. Ha ha. I’m usually inpatient so stopping and pulling over was a big thing!!! Felt like I was a real adult! 🤣🤣🤣

I’m glad you pulled over so you can be safe. I don’t know I think it’s her voice and the way she moves her hands. LOL She just annoys the heck out of me.

A similar thing happened here recently. Sudden rain, bracing for the worse yet to come… And suddenly it was done. Thank goodness. 😊

The heavier it falls, the shorter the storm. Usually. We got so much of the stuff in May. I may like the rain but I was getting rather fed up! Nicely written, however.

Yea, I need some sun too. Of course, I’m already seeing rain again on the weekend. Ugh, shoot me now. Ha, ha.

I like heavy rain, especially at night when I’m sleeping. It’s actually raining in the Quad Cities, and I hope it continues to rain some more this week and avoid a repeat of last year’s drought. Great song, by the way.

I love heavy rain when I’m sleeping too. When I was a kid my parents had a tin roof porch and I loved the sound of the rain on the roof. I’ve had some close calls with rain over the years . . . I’m not quite the fan anymore. But I hear you about drought-like weather. Never want that.

Glad you’re ok Brian. And so smart to wait it out – if you’re able to – rather than drive through it. Can be so scary and dangerous! A good metaphor for the unexpected downpours in life too!

Oh, I’m horrible about waiting. I normally push through . . . even though that’s not real smart. For once, I was actually kind of patient. Ha, ha, I’m learning yet.

I miss the rain. How I wish it comes back here in the Bay Area.

Yes, I shouldn’t complain too much. Never a good thing when a drought comes through. Hopefully, rain is heading your way!

Oh you can have the rain. Now it’s been nice the past two days but it’s supposed to rain again this weekend. I know what you’re saying though. I hate when drought like conditions hit. Never a great thing.

Weather can be so unpredictable, Brian, and your post conveys it so well. Love the song choice too. 🤗

Yes, just kind of strange. I’m used to bad weather in Jan and Feb. And we get crazy storm in the summer. Kind of rare to get one in early June. Ha, ha. A big win for me too. I’m not the most patient. To sit it out and let it pass was big for inpatient me. Ha, ha.

We had a windy May that has spilled into June, which is annoying. 🙂 Well, Good for your patience! 😎

I love rain so much (though I agree; driving in it is less fun). We had quite a bit on Tuesday into Wednesday. My yard is very happy now.
