The world can be a crazy place. Sometimes it helps to step back and list a few of the things you’re grateful for. This year, I’m making it a habit each week to list three blessings. Here’s what I’m grateful for this week, March 23 – 29.
What I’m grateful for:
—New beginnings. Winter beats us down with cold and snow. Spring lifts our spirits back up. It’s a time of renewal and new beginnings. Love this time of year.

—Surprises. I wouldn’t call myself a Maroon 5 fan, but I love the surprises in the video they created for their song “Sugar.” It reminds me that, despite everything, life is good.
—True statesmanship. This week 250 years ago in 1775, Patrick Henry gave a powerful speech at the Second Virginia Convention where he called for America’s independence from Britain, saying: “Give me liberty, or give me death!” (March 23, 1775)
We are living through some crazy times right now. I am grateful for statesmen like Henry who show us what true patriotism looks like.

What gave me a smile?
My wife likes to decorate for Easter. She set up a few stuffed bunny rabbits and the finely crafted chocolate-colored egg that she’s had since she was a little girl. She put out a few other things too. She’s a big fan of gnomes. Nonetheless, I had no idea that she was a fan of ZZ Top.
I doubt she could name more than one or two ZZ Top songs, but she’s gotta be a big fan. Here’s why.
When she decorated the house, she put out her Bunny Rabbit Gnome in a special place. When I looked at the Ghome, though, I couldn’t figure out who wore the beard and cap better? The Gnome or ZZ Top’s Billy Gibbons. Hmm, decisions, decisions. Who do you think?
I have a crazy sense of humor. Hopefully, you get what I see!

wonderful things to be grateful for and I love the ZZ Top gnome! I’m grateful for the labyrinth I discovered this week!

Oh that labyrinth looked cool. I could see me starting it, thinking what am I doing? Then asking “am I doing it right?” Then starting to relax and really get something out of it. Need to try one!

It’s made me “more” grateful. I thought it would be challenging to come up with each week, but it’s been easy! An interesting project for me. Hopefully readers get it too. 🤣🤣😎😎😎🎉🎉

What a nice list of gratitude, Brian. I love Spring and these early days for the reasons you noted. Easter is another reason to celebrate and to decorate for!

Resonating with the new beginnings paragraph. Spring is much needed after such intense dark and cold days. It’s time to let our hearts sing outside and rejoice in the beauty everywhere. Thank you for this wonderful post. Much appreciated! Light and blessings to you, my friend 🙏 🌟🌈

Well said Susana. I can’t describe it, but I’m really enjoying the spring this year. We had a relatively mild winter, but it seems like it’s come just in time for me. I can’t describe it. I hope to get out a bit more to really enjoy it. Thanks for stopping by. I’m glad the piece touched you!!!

My wife is teasing me. She thinks I’ve lost my marbles with the ZZ Top comparison. She might be right. Funny you mention the WP community. I have a piece coming some time in April on Real life Friends and WP Friends. I feel like my WP friends have been great encouragers to my own writing. Grateful for that.

There’s a small town in the next county called La Grange. Every time I drive through, I start singing the ZZ Top song of that name. So, yeah – I have to agree: that gnome could totally be Billy’s body double!

It’s an interesting project. I worry I won’t be able to come up with three things to be grateful for each week. But each time I do. In fact, I usually have more than three! 🙏🏼🙏🏼🤣🤣😎😎

I don’t see you struggling to find things to be grateful for, Brian. So don’t worry about that. I can understand how you end up finding more than three! 🙂
