I stopped by the front desk and the maitre d’ showed me to my table. “Right this way, Sir.” The party was in full session. Oh, in reality I was just taking a short break from work and had stepped out onto our front porch to sit on a rocker, but when I closed my eyes the party was in full session.
There was a cacophony of chirping and tweeting. A “cheep” here, a slow “twirp, twirp” there. Oh, my knowledge of birds leaves a lot to be desired, but there were Robins and Baltimore Orioles, and finches and sparrows. I even saw a Cardinal, with its reddish body and bill and black face.

The birds were all crying out to be heard over the others. I sat back on the bench and let the chirping take over me. There was a rhythm and a tone to the singing all its own. It was the strangest and loveliest sound I’ve heard in a while.
No, droning on-and-on like in the Zoom meeting I had sat in on earlier in the day. No humming of the refrigerator or the fan on my laptop. No jackhammering construction a few streets up like I heard two days earlier when I went to get my coffee. Just the birds.

I thought for a second that I had entered a bird sanctuary. If not that, then a party with hundreds of guests all swooping in and out of the front yard. Oh, the world tried to interrupt and pull me out of my quiet. The beep-beep of a work truck backing up and a plane flying overhead broke the silence, but the birds still sung their song.
Oh, I crashed the party alright, but what a great party to attend.
A small sample of the Sounds of Spring.

Ah….sitting here with my morning coffee…enjoying similar chatter. Like eavesdropping! Thanks for your sweet post and audio accompaniment. 🥰

I hope the chirping came through the audio. Just great to step away!

There is nothing like taking a break and being one with nature. You can feel your heartbeat slow and your muscles relax. It’s the best part of working from home because you can do so regularly without it disturbing your work day. I think it actually helps improve it! Lovely song you shared with us.

Yes, definitely the best about working remotely, being able to get away from it all for a few minutes!

Absolutely. I’m working from home today. Had an appointment for my mortgage term renewal… bloody hell. And decided to stay here for the rest of the day. Why cross into the city, eh?

I actually woke this morning to the sound of birds chirping. It was the first sunny morning in a few days and they were very happy, which of course put me in a great mood too. Sounds like you had a great escape from Zoom. Maggie

Delightful, Brian! We’ve even got a few redwing blackbirds. Their song takes me back to my childhood on the farm. lump in throat

Oh, that’s great Joy. Nothing like going back to the farm.

It also took me back to my childhood on the farm when a symphony of birds would start at the crack of dawn (lump in my throat as well).

We grew up next to a sheep farm, it was always great waking up to the sound of the birds and the bleating of the sheep and family!

Oh the sheep…that made me smile. Our neighbors had sheep across the road from our house. That was part of the chorus of mornings in my growing up years. Thanks for prompting some great memories.

When I brought my girlfriend (now my wife) home, it was hard for her to fall asleep at first. The baaing sleep all night kept her awake. Me? I was out in an instant.

Our birds have been chirping up a storm here. I guess everyone is back from vacation and establishing their locations for the season ahead. It’s nice to just turn the sound down and hear the symphony outside…

When I grew up we lived next door to a farm and would regularly hear the sheep next door. It took my wife a while when we visited to get used to the sound. The bahhhing and the sound of the bells around their necks was pretty constant. Me . . . never bothered me, because I was used to it. To me, that meant spring.

I heard the cardinal in your bird symphony. I too do the same thing. I take a break from writing, or sit and read outside. I end up with my eyes closed listening to bird songs.

Oh you’re good EA. Picking up the birds from my crappy little audio. That’s pretty good. I wouldn’t have been able to tell you which bird was which. Ha, ha, love it.

I have a cheat. My Bird Buddy AI bird feeder has an app on my phone. The camera on the feeder takes pictures of birds. Then the app identifies them and has info about each species that includes audio of their songs!

Your son helped create that right? That sounds really cool. Sounds like it’s a really well thought out user experience. Very cool.

My son was on the marketing and fundraising end. He works for a company that helps developers bring their products to market and then does fulfillment for their fundraisers. It was one of his biggest projects, raising $11 million for the bird feeder! The developers are in Yugoslavia.

Now that is the kind of party I would crash any time. I love the image of you taking a break, sitting on the porch, listening to the birds. I do the same thing when ever possible. Great post. Hugs, C

Thank you for sharing this with us Brian! It’s now 9:00 pm and bedtime so I’m enjoying the sounds of the birds as I’m readying for sleep and it is indeed calming and relaxing. That is an awesome wellness check you did yourself. One of the joys of working remote for sure!
