The days after Christmas can sometimes feel strange. The big day and all the anticipation that comes with it have passed. Santa is back at the North Pole with his boots off, kicked up on his sofa, enjoying a cold beverage. The elves too have the next eleven months off.
It’s time to recuperate.
I often take off from work during this time. I try to recuperate like Santa. I spend some great quality time with my family. We’re usually on the road traveling, with the rest of the world, to see extended family but it’s still relatively relaxing.
I sometimes have to remind myself to let stresses and worries go. I focus on my kids and talking to them as much as I can. I want these memories to hold me over when they’re far away. I tell myself to stay in the present and not get too far ahead of myself. I try to grab a coffee and think about my dreams and goals for the new year.
New Year’s hasn’t come yet, but it’s coming fast.
It’s different kind of time, but I’ll take it. There’s nowhere like home with the family.

Ohhhh….staying in the moment and making memories — not just for the kids but for you to hold on to. I love that! 🥰

“Just being.” It’s such an odd feeling. I fight it. I feel like I have to be checking off goals off my list. But, I love just chilling with the kids. In between moments with them, I’m working on a new machine that will stop time! I’ll let you know if its successful 😝😝😝😝

Oh my….yes…please DO keep me posted about that, Mad Scientist Brian! 🤣🥰🤣

There are times when I wish WordPress would allow me to include a photo in the comments. If I could share one, it would be me in the lab, white coat, goggles on, burner and beaker in front of me, coming up with a new way of stopping time and changing the way we live. Pretty cool, right? 🤪🤪🤪🥳🥳

Hey…no fair! You crawled into my brain…I was channeling that exact image from “Back to the Future” with all of those accessories and props…and you in the lab coat! 😜😜😜

One day “Like” will work on Word Press for me, once again. Until that time, I want to say that I agree with you, the days after Christmas are a change. After all the to-do lists and rush of holiday preparations things slow down. It almost feels like a bit of a let down. Time spent with family, reading that new book received as a Christmas gift or just sitting in front of the fireplace looking out the window are all good ways to easy back into everyday life. I’m right there with you!

Ha ha, don’t you love WordPress for all its little quirks! No problems, thank you for soldiering through and letting me know that you’ve like what I’ve posted. I’m right there with you in trying to read something new. Love the chance to “just be.” It’s hard for me to do that. Grateful , after years of not having that oppty, to just chill. Thank you for reading!!!!!!!

I agree with you Brian, after Christmas day is over, there is a strangeness in the air, almost a type of disconnect in a way. But, comically, your last line makes me think about Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz…”There’s no place like home!” I agree! 😍🥂🎁✨🎄 Cheers my friend.

It’s odd. I’m very distracted. The “hard charger, we always need to be working towards a goal, Type A personality” in me is definitely having a midlife crisis this week. He’s not sure what to do with himself. The “surfer dude, let’s sleep all day or go out into in the woods and hug a tree, lazy bum” is loving life. Ha ha! Definitely a fun time!

😂😝🤣 Well Brian my friend, it sounds like I am inclined to hang out with the latter of your personalities, and enjoy loving life! 😍 I too have that hardcore Type A Personality, but I am learning to back off more than I have. This stress is way too “stressful” for me! 😱 LOL Cheers 🥂

The memories that will hold me over when I can’t see the kids or I’m missing them. I feel like they’re photos that I pull up when I’m thinking of them. Kind of crazy but definitely grateful for the time!!!!😝☺️☺️☺️☺️

We’ve “discussed” here the huge anticipation of Christmas, and that certainly plays a role into folks’ post-Christmas vibes. There’s so much build-up to it, and the marketing folks try to get us fired up for it six months out…the result is a perfectly natural come-down from it all for many. I’m just one of those folks who rides that Christmas high right into the New Year!

Totally agree Brian, spending time with the family is always the best, and stacking up those memories for the time when we are apart is vital. I do love this lull before the New Year. It gives me a chance to rest and restore. Hugs, C

Enjoy the in between time before it all starts over for the New Year.
Like you, I’m off throughout the festive period, reflecting with coffee in hand. We’re planning a few trips to coffee shops, trying to avoid the sales, but mostly just relaxing, enjoying time together. It’s a chance for special moments and to recharge, ready for the coming year
