Yikes, call me when Halloween is over!

Tangled spider webs hang from the roof. Plumes of smoke and ghost-like cackles come from the house next door. Frightening-looking skull and bones appear at every turn.

And then to top it off, zombies with icky blood oozing out of life-like wounds and werewolf head outfits with glistening fangs all come knocking on my door. They stand and stare at me, waiting for a treat or something else spooky.

Oh, I’m done and we haven’t even gotten to the really scary stuff yet. Check out my blog post from October 2019 on why I can’t stand Horror Movies and why Halloween give me the chills. Go ahead and call me names. Tell I’m acting like a little kid. It doesn’t matter.

Let me have the extra bag or M&Ms or Snickers bars and let me run to my room to hide under the covers. Yes, yes, definitely call me when Halloween is over, the calendar page has flipped, and we’ve moved onto November.

Who’s with me?

  1. Happy Halloween, Brian. I can understand that horror movies are not for everyone but they sure are extra fun when you find them scary! Good luck with the trick or treaters tonight. 😊🎃

    1. Oh you’re one of them Ab. The zombies got to you. Ha, ha, I can watch horror and thriller movies, but it has to be in the middle of the day, I have to have my back to the wall, and I can only half heartedly be watching or I’ll be dreaming about chainsaws and monsters and scary things that go bump in the night for weeks. Ha, ha.

  2. We have snow flurries coming down…hello Halloween…hello fall/winter…the change is here! I suspect our super cold snap will deter some goblins today, but hubster Paul’s stocked up on candy just the same. Come on over….I think we’ll have leftovers! 😜

    1. It’s gotten colder here too, but we’re still expecting a gremlin or two tonight. I’m wondering about your Disappearing Girl. I think I know what she’s up to and where she disappears!!! I have to go out today and resupply all the candy that we bought for trick or treaters. We had three bags of Hershey’s, Reece’s Cups and Payday bars and they’re all gone now. I’m thinking your girl traveled however ghosts travel and came last night to my house and stole all the candy. Poof in mid air. No picture frames turned over, but they were turned askew and there was a lot of racket last night. Hmmm, kind of scary. What do you think of my hypothesis? Yes, yes, I’m ready for Halloween to be done!!!! Frightening!🤪🤪🤪😎😎😎🎃🎃

  3. I don’t mind a scary movie as long as all the lights are on and it’s not just before bedtime! I’ve been catching up on quite a few scary shows this season and sometimes I still find myself hiding behind my hands when the music gets spooky 🙂 Happy Halloween Brian!

  4. I used to stay away from most horror movies (though I did see Friday the 13th on Friday the 13th, then walked home across a field until I remembered the movie and ran the rest of the way.
Now, because of my beau and his love of all things horror, I’ve been introduced to some really good ones (and really, I watched The Walking Dead, why not watch movies?)

I am, however, now one of those houses who turns off her lights to the little goblins as there are so few, I ended up with a huge bowl of candy and my butt does not need that 😉

      1. My husband and kids watched it and bugged me for three years. AMC would replay everything prior to the new season starting so they finally convinced me. Who watched it until the end of season 11? Just me. Go figure.
I do love the Mike Flanagan mini series. Midnight Mass, The Haunting of Hill House, The Haunting of Bly Manor, The Midnight Club. They are horror without being gory, or not too much, anyway.

      2. Easy now. No going overboard or anything here Dale. Ha, ha. Yes, I was the only one to stick with walking dead too. I generally knew what to expect so I was fine. Those others you mentioned . . . uh-oh, you’re scaring me just writing the titles. Ha, ha.

      3. Hmm, maybe I’ll trust you. My wife loves to watch Hallmark movies at Christmas. Maybe I’ll throw one of those scarier movies in as my suggested choice to give our holiday watching a little different feel. One Christmas love story, one thriller horror movie, one love story, one horror one. Ha, ha.

      4. Haha!
I will not lie and say I don’t succumb to watching one or two of those silly movies myself. Something about the season turns me a bit into mush… Shhhh don’t tell anyone!
And these are not movies but episodes (about 6 or so per season) so it’s barely an hour of scary between the mush 😉 She might surprise you and enjoy them!

      5. Haha! Then, hey, do introduce her to these series (I started with Midnight Mass).
I’ve no one to blame as I live alone (and can watch whatever without witnesses!)

  5. Brian, I am so there with you. Many people I know who love horror movies say they are the best kind of movies! Nope, not for me. 😱 I don’t do gory scenes and I internalize what I see, and it filters through my dreams at night. 😲 YES, nightmares gallore about what I saw on those horror films. To this day, I don’t put a chair or sofa with the back facing a window. Call me crazy, but I am okay with that. Oh yeah, and Happy Halloween to ya my friend. 💀🎃👻

  6. I’m with you! November 1st is one of my favorite days of the year. Halloween is over, candy is half off, and everyone turns their thoughts toward gratitude. Looking forward to tomorrow!

    1. As a kid, I used to immediately look forward to late November. As an adult though I’ve really started to like early November before everyone has shifted all of their attention on Christmas. Now I love Christmas, but I’ve enjoyed more of the slow build instead of all the crass commercialism.

  7. I not a fan of horror movies. I did watch “Carrie” but that’s the only one I can remember. I loved “Wizard of Oz” but felt like I must have fallen asleep before it got too scary.

  8. I’m not a fan, either, Brian. And I was once an anti-Halloween crusader. Now, I’m able to give space and grace. But I’m still more awkward about it than I wish!

    1. I don’t hate Halloween per se. I think some adults get into the gore a little too much, taking away some of the joy of dressing up for little kids, but overall it’s fine. I just hate the horror movie side of it. My imagination is just too strong. The movies stick with me well after I’ve seen them. Yikes.

  9. Blood and gore, no thanks. Alfred Hitchcock is real horror. At school we have Pajama Day instead of wearing Halloween costumes. Everyone loves it, teachers wear pajamas, too. We turn out the lights and use glow sticks and flashlights. It’s a great way to celebrate Halloween for young children.
