Car advertisements are everywhere. You see them in commercials, on social media, everywhere. It wasn’t always that way. The Winton Motor Carriage Company placed what is believed to be the earliest known automobile advertisement 125 years ago on July 30, 1898.
The magazine advertisement in the Scientific American, the same magazine that documented the work of Albert Einstein and Nikola Tesla, urged readers to “dispense with a horse.”
Oh, I think we’ve definitely done that.

I love all the speed quotes, and I’m reading, like “Yes, that’s me!” Then I see the turtle, and that’s me too, but I had to LEARN to be that way as well. Both fast and slow are great lessons.

I had the same feeling! And yes, slowing down is a hard lesson to learn, one I’m still working on. Ha ha

Fun quotes, Brian. Honestly, if I had my way, every single ad of any kind would be gone. They are a waste of people’s time trying to sell us stuff we mostly don’t want.

Oh….a Ferris quote…and my fave. Thanks, Brian. And one wonders what became of “Winton Motor Carriage Company”. Never heard of them. Maybe they returned to the stables and gave up? 😉

Great quotes. I read an article today about car sales in the WSJ and how the industry is never going back to “normal.” During our walk, my husband mentioned buying a new car. The article said inventories are low, manufacturers are moving toward Tesla’s sales practice of ordering a car and waiting for it. What else? Prices are high. Leases are no longer common or cheaper than buying. Used cars have not gone down in price. Sounds like we’ll skip the new car idea!

Yes, that industry is changing right before our eyes. Really expensive right now to even think about replacing an existing car. Yikes.

Isn’t that the truth.

I love the quotes, Brian, especially the last two.
I smiled at the ‘dispense with the horse’ ad. I could never do that! Life wouldn’t be the same without horses in it. 🙂

When we were kids, we used to like to go to my grandparents farm, mainly because the horse or two that he had. Good memories.

The horse quote made me smile. Personally, I’d like to dispense with the cars and go back to the horses, even understanding … there’d be some noteworthy “give,” to obtain such a “take.” 🙂
