When I was a kid, we lived on a rural country road. We got a few trucks and lots of Amish horse and buggies traveling by, but we didn’t get a lot of ice cream trucks driving our way. So, when my wife and I first moved into our house, I was like a little kid when I first heard the sing-song chime and saw the ice cream truck pull up to the street. I would run down our steps like a little kid on Christmas morning.
Oh, my poor wife.
Of course, I never seemed to have cash on me. The kids and I would run through the house scrounging up change wherever we could find it to pay for everyone’s cone or treat. We knew we didn’t have much time. We didn’t want to dawdle or the driver would be off again before we got our treat. Yes, I was definitely worse than the kids.
Oh, the joys of summer.
I haven’t seen the ice cream truck yet this summer, but I know it will be coming soon. I’m ready for him or her. I got my cash sitting out in a bowl and my sneakers by the door, just in case I need to make a run for it. (Of course, I just learned that thanks to the power of the Internet, it’s now possible to track a Mister Softee ice cream truck.)

Ah, thanks for reminding me of the mad scramble to the ice cream truck! Those were the good old days! These days, most of my mad scrambles are to the bathroom! Ya think that’s the oldster in me? LOL

Oh, I’m right there with Julia, mine usually come in the middle of the night. I run into walls, ran into the door last night. Good grief. Ha, ha.

The ice cream truck song is like the pied piper’s tune. Magical and brings the kids of all ages out!

Yes, then there’s me, blocking out and pushing kids out of the way like it’s a mad scramble for a million dollars or the hot new Christmas toy!!! Ha, ha, okay, maybe not, but I suspect that’s what my wife is worried about me doing. Ha, ha.

The perfect Saturday treat, a huge pizza and then ice cream to celebrate. I wouldn’t even care what kind of pizza, deep dish Chicago, New York, doesn’t matter. I’m in.

I love most ice cream 🍦 and I can just imagine you pushing the kids out of the way to get your treat. In the States, I’m assuming you get other options as well as cones?

You said! The absolute perfect.

Oh, yes, Brenda. A push here, a block there. Nah, I suppose my wife would shoot me if I did that, but I must admit to thinking it. Ha, ha. Yes, the guy that comes around to my neighborhood has soft serve vanilla and chocolate ice cream, flavored water ice and then various kind of ice cream bars, fudge pops, and creamsicles. I’m making myself hungry just writing about it.

Living in a flat near the city centre we don’t get ice cream vans. But I used to love getting a wafer or a nougat … mmm I wonder if I can find an old fashioned ice cream shop 🤔

I, too, subscribe to Ginger Rogers’ “My love for ice cream emerged at an early age, and has never left!” 😀

I’m laughing, Brian. Our ice cream truck takes Venmo now — seems like they are changing all the old rituals… 🙂 Love the you can’t buy happiness but you can buy ice cream…. quote!

Years one through second grade we lived in town with an ice cream truck. It was a dead-end street with every house full of kids. Yes, great memories. Second grade until I left for college we were out in the country. I had to be content with the popsicles mom bought.

Yea, mom’s popsicles were okay, but nothing like an ice cream truck pulling up to your street!!!!!

If you keep the perspective of a big kid, I figure you never get old. Like that!!!!

Amen to that and in that case I’m never going to be old. LOL
Love it!
