Creating some hope – Part V

It’s easy to leave the dreaming to the kids. We tell ourselves that we’re past that now. We’re adults. We have work. We’ve got bills to pay. A house or apartment to clean. We have to get the kids dinner at night. We have laundry to clean and fold. We’ve got commitments out the wazoo.

We don’t have time for silly little things like dreams.

And we would be wrong. When we stop dreaming, when we stop being inspired, we stop living. Yes, bills are important. We need to focus on them. Still, we can never forget about the beauty of life too.

What inspires you?

  • The movie The Wizard of Oz made the line “There’s no place like home” famous. It’s a beautiful line. Home means different things to different people, but wherever we feel the most comfortable, the most secure, that’s a beautiful thing. Home is where the heart is.
  • I love listening to my kids talking about their dreams. It’s the same with hearing young kids talk about what they want to be when they grow up. The choices are endless.

  • An encouraging meme that hits us at the exact moment we need to hear the message.
  • The women of NASA pushing the limits on the ground and in space.

  • A Saturday morning, a brisk, but sunny day, and a good cup of coffee!
  • A pep talk. We all need a pep talk once in a while to get over that next hill. In the words of an older, wiser Rocky Balboa, “Let me tell you something you already know. The world ain’t all sunshine and rainbows. It’s a very mean and nasty place and I don’t care how tough you are it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it . . . But ya gotta be willing to take the hits, and not pointing fingers saying you ain’t where you wanna be because of him, or her, or anybody! Cowards do that and that ain’t you! You’re better than that!”

  1. When we stop dreaming, when we stop being inspired, we stop living. I so agree with this. What inspires me? People inspire me. The quirkier and ore unique, the better. I love them all. Travel inspires me too, but that’s because you get to meet different people.

  2. I’ve really enjoyed your Creating Some Hope series, Brian. Those videos are all so good. A pep talk, is something I get nearly every day I visit the blogs I follow. There’s so much encouragement here. Thanks for all your pep talks and creating hope.💞

  3. we can find inspiration right in front of us or in the most unlikely places. one of my favorite quotes is from a character in the movie, Napoleon Dynamite:

“Just Imagine You’re Weightless, In The Middle Of The Ocean, Surrounded By Tiny Little Seahorses.” – Deb (Tina Majorino)

  4. Excellent post. Loved reading this. I do think that as adults we stop dreaming because we are so busy with life, but it’s a great reminder to never stop dreaming, and even taking those dreams and trying them out. If you fail, that’s ok, because you still went for it, so you can’t regret it. Thanks for the reminder.

  5. I always believe it’s important to see the world through the wonder-filled eyes of a child, because it’s easier to dream that way.

Love your list, Brian. I really need to see the Wizard of Oz one day or I’m gonna have to return my “gay card” as I joke with friends and colleagues. I’ve even seen Wicked already before it! 😂
