When early American Indians and settlers looked out over the woods of Appalachia, The Great Plains, or the majesty of what is Yosemite, I wonder about what was going through their minds. Mother Nature can be unforgiving. I’m sure they were concerned about just surviving. Did they stop and take in the beauty?
I have to think their thoughts weren’t unlike my own recently at a local car wash. The wear and tear on my car was starting to build up and bothering me. When I paid the guy and entered the automatic car wash, soap sprayed from all different directions. Lights pulsated across my car window, one bright color and then another and another. One would sparkle and soon be replaced by another. The bubbles were man made, but that didn’t tarnish their beauty.
They were out of this world.

I stopped by the car wash because I was simply trying to clean up my messy car. However, the car wash reminded me that one man’s trash is another man’s masterpiece. It reminded me too that beauty is all around us. We just need to look for it. And sometimes we just have to laugh about where we find it.
I write more about the car wash in my story, Looking for The Beauty, on the Heart of the Matter.

Andrea Bocelli, the famous Italian tenor, blind since childhood, knows a thing or two about beauty. “What is beautiful enchants me. I mean not just physical beauty but a wider concept of beauty. There is beauty in poetry and in great musical or singing performances. There is beauty everywhere if you can just see it.”
Preach Andrea! Preach! Or in your case sing it.

Oh, you too Beth. I gotta admit though, I can be a little bit of a pain about it. I think it’s the smell. I hate getting into a car that smells and has leftover soda bottles and waters. I call them the “ghosts of past drives.” Ha, ha.

Oh thank you Donna, I was just looking for a blog post and it jumped out at me. I thought it was too simple, too silly, but it hit me that sometimes simple really is better.

I enjoyed this post. We went to a drive through car wash and I felt like a kid. It’s been years since I’ve been in one.

Yes, car washes were cool as a kid. First, my parents didn’t use them much and second it was like you were entering a different, albeit, small world. Ha, ha.

Yes! I videoed the recent car wash experience. I was so excited. But then I discovered my finger blocking most of the view!

I just had my snow tires put on (it’s a law here in Quebec that they must be on by December 1) and while I was at it, had it washed inside and out. I just feels so darn good, doesn’t it? At least for now…

We visited friends in Toronto years ago. I saw right away that snow tires were a must. Plugging in your battery too!!! New tires, a clean car, you’re ready for anything now Dale!!!! When snow pushes everyone else inside, I fully expect to hear that you’re out ther off-reading it!!!! Right? Ha ha 🤪🤪

Toronto can’t handle the snow like Quebec can! They don’t get nearly as much as we do. And yeah, some cars do need to be plugged in. I am soooo happy to finally have a garage that I can park my car in. About to start doing that, too.
And funny thing… as I get older, I am less inclined to go out and freeze my butt off 😉

Whoa now! Who am I going to call now when I need my street plowed? I was counting on some nice Quebec driver coming down and helping us out, yikes!

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and being able to see the beauty in everyday life and things is a blessing. Great message for this Thanksgiving!

Oh, yes, the car wash has that vibe. Of course for IG promoting the story, it hit me that I should’ve thought about Rose Royce singing, Working in a Car Wash. Ha, ha, oh teh music of the 70s. Ha.

I have often thought the same thing as the Native Americans looked out over a beautiful landscape. I hope you had a Happy Thanksgiving, Brian.

It was great Jennie. Wish it was longer, having everyone home, but looking forward to Christmas. HOpe you had a great holiday too.

I’m so glad yours was great. Hey, we all wish for those longer times together, but it makes the next visit all the better. Yes, Christmas is right around the corner. I watched a couple of Hallmark movies today. Thanksgiving was very nice, even though our kids and grandchildren are far away. Our backyard neighbors and their little ones LOVE us. We’re part of their family, and they insist we join them for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Of course I’m in my element as a preschool teacher with the children. We’re blessed!
