I saw an interview a few years ago where Tom Hanks, the actor of Saving Private Ryan, Forrest Gump, Philadelphia, and many other movies, talked about his hobby of collecting vintage typewriters. He appreciates the craftsmanship and history behind them. His personal collection numbers about 250 machines.
I’m nothing like Hanks. No Academy Awards in my closet. Hanks has two, but we’re alike in odd collections. He collects typewriters, I collect quotes on writing.
I ran my first post on writing quotes last week in my post, A few thoughts on writing, here’s version number two.

This one: “Write even when the world is chaotic.” My middle two “Leora books” came out of the Covid years, the first while recovering from a reverse shoulder replacement.

Great advice Joy. In some ways, I find my writing when things are chaotic . . . to be even better, because it’s real and even a bit raw.

You’re right about Martin’s quote Ab. I thought the same thing. He writes villains well. They’re not bad people in the villain’s mind. So many writers miss that.

Yes, I had to laugh at that too. Um, once you have one, why do you need two. But I guess it’s his hobby. I guess too some of them are antique, but I’m still not sure I would want to spend my time on them. Ha, ha. To each his own.

Love, love, love Nora Roberts quote. I’m always amazed when I don’t think I have much for a blog. I’ll start writing and then step away. I come back and start editing and I’m surprised with what the end result becomes. Need that first spark though. Need it on the page. Thanks for the idea for this post. I have one more set coming next Saturday.

Love them. I especially like Mike Rich’s comment. Some times I fall into the trap of editing while I’m still writing. It doesn’t work that way. Need to get something on the page first then editing becomes so much easier!!!! 🙂 🙂 🙂

I love EB White! I can’t wait. It’s probably my PR background. Also watching my mother struggle through life when she couldn’t do anything until everything was perfect — like being 10 lbs thinner.

This is an excellent compilation of quotes about the passion of writing Brian. My last book was inspired by this quote:

These are all great! I giggled at Alexander Hamilton’s “hit you with a chair” one. I also have a moleskin notebook I have entitled “beautiful words” which I have filled with wonderful sentences from books I have read. One of these quotes starts out every blog post I write!
