I was frustrated at work. I was frustrated at home. I wasn’t writing much for myself and I felt like I had all this creativity inside of me and nowhere to run with it. My wife noticed the angst and suggested that I start my own blog. I kicked around the idea for a few weeks and even wrote a couple draft posts to see how my posts might look.
I’ve been at it now for eight years, I’ll be celebrating my 8th anniversary next week as a blogger. I love blogging more than I ever thought possible.
Here’s my first ever post and a few thoughts on blogging:

That’s cool, Brian. I guess we started blogging around the same time. I had to go look, but my “about” page was posted on 9/11 in 2014! Guess that makes us blog birthday twins!

Good for you David. That’s awesome. It is funny to go back and look at some of the old blogs I’ve written. I wonder if it’s the same for you. Thanks so much for the kind words and support! Good luck blogging twin! Ha, ha.

Congrats, Brian! Eight years is a huge milestone–hope you’re here for another 8+ years!! I think, for most, making it through the first month or two is the biggest hurdle. I’ve been blogging since late-2010… boy, does that make me feel like an old fart, haha! 😅

Not an old fart Erin, just committed! Love that you’ve been at it since 2010. Gives me something to shoot for. I appreciate the kind comments and support. Thanks so much.

8 years. A great milestone. Congrats. Your reason for starting the blog is no doubt an ongoing inspiration to sustain it. Keep it going.

Thanks so much Donna. I have my dryspells too, but I’m grateful for the chance to be creative and have an outlet. I’d be lost without it.

Good on you, sir. If I’m still blogging next April, that’ll make 8 years for me, too. I’ve always been much better at writing what I think than saying it, so my blog has been a great outlet for me. Thank you, WordPress!

Oh, yes, I get that completely. I write better than I talk. Writing comes naturally, where speaking takes more work. I’ve stopped fighting myself over that and am just happy with who I am. Congratulations to you too. An exciting milestone. Keep at it!!!!!

Blogging is addicting, Brian. I’ve been at this for about ten years, my blog has over 8000 posts. Addicting!

Where’s the love button. Love the honesty in your writing Julia and how you face the challenges and fears of writing. If my post had some small role in helping today’s post, I’m so happy. Just like you wrote, yes, here we go! Ha, ha.

Thanks so much for the kind comments Brenda. My thoughts on that first piece eight years later: My writing still has a mind of its own! I never quite know which direction it’s going to go. The funny thing . . . when I first started the blog, I thought I would be writing more fiction. I’ve definitely gone more in the memoir, essay direction. I also started out posting once a week, went to three days, and now six days a week. I might post a bit less next year, but who knows???? Thanks so much for the encouragement.

Oh you’re welcome Brian. I think you’re doing a great job. Even in a year, I find it amazing how much it can take over. I’ve also found it surprising the direction it’s taken me. And I can relate completely about where the mind/imagination takes us. I’ve been down a couple of rabbit holes 🤣

Your wife is a wise woman and a wonderful partner to have understood – and encouraged – your need to express yourself in blogging, Brian 🙂💕 So glad you started… That is a great first blog post!!! And I’m so glad you’ve continued… I always enjoy reading your blog and hearing your unique perspective on life…🙏🙂

Don’t say that too loud Patti. Ha, ha, she’s going to remind me how wise she is and how lost I am without her. I’m just kidding, but yes, she definitely recognized that I needed the outlet. It’s been so much fun. Thanks for the kind comments and encouragement!

I love all your quotes and I enjoyed reading your first blog. I also read another’s bloggers first post yesterday from Julia Preston. Maybe you follow her?

Love Julia’s blog! Thought her first one was spot on, need to fight that vulnerability of putting it out there.

It was so good! I keep things too neutral and don’t allow many of my real thoughts exposed.

I read blog comments from the first to the last, real interaction in the blog world. Like reading my blog 10 years ago where bloggers were still actively using comment forms before social media came. 🙂
