Speaking the same language

In elementary school, making friends seemed to come easy. You became friends over shared likenesses and how you liked to spend recess. “You like kickball too. Wanna be friends?” In high school, it was over shared experiences, like suffering through the same class or sweating together, running cross country.

As an adult, I find that friends are tougher to make. They take more time. There’s more thought about what makes a good friend. There’s more caution, but they’re just as important and meaningful. Here’s a few thoughts on friendliness and friendship:

  1. Love these quotes and it is true. Kids have a great gift of making friends. Harder for us as we filter it through criteria developed through life experiences.

  2. I love the Charles Darwin quote. So much truth that our friendships both make this life worthwhile and also say so much about who we are. And the new look of your quotes is snappy, Brian!

  3. Making friends in itself isn’t too difficult for me. The problem is getting out and finding people to befriend. I lead a very quiet life and have trouble both physically and mentally going out to social functions or places like the library where I might meet someone new. I can count on one hand the true friends I’ve had over the years. I love the quote about the friends you can call on at 4 am… that’s a true friend.

    1. Me too Kegarland. I’ve been working on another blog on the same idea, people who you think have similar values and experiences but instead being surprised by them. I’ve come to the conclusion that friend means different things to folks! Thank you.
