Mother Nature tells fall to wait its turn

Mother Nature is a fickle sort. Fall foliage has started to pop across the Northeast. Peak fall foliage where I live is expected to take place over the next ten days.

However, Mother Nature is having none of that. In some places you can see the bright multi-colored fingerprints of fall, in others, like a big tree in my backyard and much of the region, it still looks like the middle of the summer.

Oh, the tree has some spotty hints of yellow, but, if I didn’t know any better, I would think the calendar was stuck on July or August, instead of the middle of October. Yes, yes, I’m sure things will start to pick up soon, but not fast enough for my liking.

Starbucks has been selling its Pumpkin Spice Latte since late August, craft breweries across the world released their Octoberfest and Pumpkin Beers right about the same time, the least fall can do is show up on time in all its majestic glory.

In the mean time, I’m left with more photos of mums and my crazy dog deciding to give one a big whiff. Oh brother!

  1. Love the pics – especially your sweet pooch – so cute! Enjoy the colors…a lot of our showstopper trees lost their leaves to strong winds over the past few days. Sigh, it’s “bare branches” time now. 😉

  2. Lovely photos, Brian. Autumn is meant to be here in the UK, too, but we also have green leaves mixing with copper and bronze ones. It looks like the trees themselves are confused, which is hardly surprising (if trees could feel confusion, that is). Who knows!? I love the purple flowers. What are they called? I don’t recognise them as being over here. Your dog is adorable. What is his/her name? Too many questions!

    1. The purple flowers were in my neighbors flower bed. I think (and this is coming from a killer of plants and flowers) they’re mums too, similar to the ones I photographed last week. My dog is not adorable. She’s a pain! Ha, ha, I was trying yo make it a quick outside stop and she wanted to take a long stroll around the neighborhood! Ugh. She’s a good ole dog though! We love her!

  3. It’s the same story up here farther north. Mother Nature is keeping us guessing, and reminding us in a more gentle way than with her hurricanes, droughts, and wildfires that there are consequences for messing with nature!

  4. My favorite splashy fall yellow tree turned rusty brown before it made it to the big yellow splash. But hey—the pic of your adorable snoop dog made up for my disappointment—so thanks! I needed that! 👏

    1. Thanks Julia! I’m glad her shot brought a smile. She was not my favorite when I took that pix — I had back-to-back meetings and she wanted to go outside to do her thing. Of course, she was slow and plodding along! I guess it was her way of teaching me patience! Ha, ha! Silly dog! Have a great weekend.

  5. Very early in the fall season here. It has been a hot and dry year. We are getting fire season warnings and promises of rain that never comes. Your mums are pretty. They come in such beautiful colors and bloom after everything else is done.

    1. Adorable? I’m not so sure. She’s on a roll this week: made me late for my meetings; got in the trash; and was digging in my wife’s flower bed. But, she is very much loved, so she was quickly back in our good graces. Darned dog, has us wrapped around her lil paw 🐾
